A first farm in Menorca
We cultivate cosmetics
"Cosmetics can reconnect with the living world.
Our formulas are built around Mediterranean plants that we grow, gather and transform on the land of our first Ferme Cosmétique™ in Menorca, in the heart of a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve.
But our ambition goes further: to make cosmetics a model that sanctuarizes farmland rather than depleting it, and that supports farmers by sharing know-how to better value their crops.
That is why we are working on the Fermes Cosmétiques™ label project, a standard designed to make Boténor a pioneer of a new generation of Farm to Face brands."

Protecting land to protect your skin.
Our commitments
Our decisions are guided by the seasons, the soil and the cycles of the living world. This is what shapes the way we grow, harvest and formulate.
Luxury without compromise with the living world
For us, luxury is an art of living where long time is a compass. That of a plant that grows, of a harvest that waits for its season, of a formula that is not negotiated against industrial deadlines. A relationship to the world that the speed of our society has made almost inaccessible.
Creating natural skincare with remarkable efficacy
The whole architecture of BOTÉNOR formulation is built around the efficacy of natural actives, part of which come from extremophile plants. The ability of these plants to survive in inhospitable, saline and arid habitats has endowed them with a powerful antioxidant system, a true reservoir of biomolecules for the skin.
Growing to preserve
By growing some of the plants that make up our skincare, and by practising responsible wild harvesting for others, we make an essential choice: to preserve the species and ecosystems they come from.
On the farm as in nature, we always favour the most appropriate approach for each plant. Cultivation allows us to preserve certain wild species while controlling the traceability and quality of the plants we grow: the plot, the harvest, the moment. Wild harvesting, for its part, allows us to stay close to Menorca's ecosystems and to work with plants that naturally belong in their environment.
These two approaches are complementary and share a single aim: to respect nature's rhythms, to preserve the biodiversity of the UNESCO biosphere reserve and to guarantee the quality and traceability of every active we use.
Today, nearly 30% of the number of active ingredients in our four founding skincare products come from our San Rafel farm. This share evolves with the seasons, as new plants enrich what we grow on the farm.
Reducing plastic, at every step
The jar of our Moisturizing Cream is made of a biocomposite based on wood polymer. Our bottles are made of recyclable glass, our boxes of paper. Recyclable plastic remains only on certain components, such as pumps and caps, and we are working to reduce it further.
Protecting the living world
Our skincare is vegan and certified cruelty-free by PETA. But protecting the living world does not stop at the formula. San Rafel is a mini-reserve: donkeys, rabbits, partridges, tortoises and sheep live there freely and take part in the life of the farm. No pesticides, no chemical inputs: natural balances do the work. This is the commitment we want to carry to every farm of the label project.
Our 1st laboratory is our fields.

30 hectares of preserved land in Menorca
Understanding our approach
It is a farm whose crops are dedicated to cosmetic care in the service of the living world.
Our first Ferme Cosmétique™, San Rafel, in Menorca, had been abandoned for decades. We brought it back into cultivation. We grow and gather part of the plants that make up our skincare there, without pesticides or chemical inputs, following the principles of regenerative agriculture. This model is meant to expand, with other partner farms and landowners, through the “Fermes Cosmétiques™” label project that we are developing.
Our emblematic plants come from San Rafel, our farm in Menorca, in a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve: Helichrysum italicum of Corsican origin (immortelle), Santolina magonica, endemic to the Balearic Islands, mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus) and wild olive. We grow and gather them.
They are complemented by ingredients carefully chosen from specialist partners. Other plants are gradually joining our crops, season after season.
For us, organic is a prerequisite, not a marketing argument. When you cultivate land to make skincare, it seems natural to preserve it, without resorting to products that impoverish the soil or weaken the living world.
That is why our skincare is COSMOS Organic certified by Ecocert, with on average 80% of ingredients from organic farming, and all of it 100% natural in origin. Our rates are well above the standard. We are working to increase this share, without ever giving up the standard we set ourselves: natural skincare of great technical precision.
Today, nearly 30% of the number of active ingredients in our four founding skincare products come from our San Rafel farm.
A plant does not become a skincare product overnight. Land must be restored, crops established, plants given time to take root. Then comes the time of formulation and testing: understanding what each plant can bring to the skin, integrating it into a formula, checking its stability over time, its tolerance and the results on the skin. At San Rafel, we have returned long-abandoned land to cultivation, and each new plant takes several seasons before joining a product.
This share is growing step by step: we prefer to move at the pace of the land rather than promise faster than it can give.
We distinguish three levels of reassurance, indicated on each product page.
Depending on the product, instrumental measurements are carried out on the finished product, such as skin hydration measured with a Corneometer. Skin tolerance is assessed separately, through tests carried out under dermatological control.
Each product then goes through 28-day use tests with a panel of volunteers, who assess the perceived effects.
Finally, for the sourced actives that make up each product, our claims rely on the efficacy dossiers provided by their manufacturers and on the scientific literature.
We strengthen this foundation as our studies progress.
Menorca has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993 and is home to one of the last preserved Mediterranean ecosystems. It is here that, in 2016, we found a farm abandoned for decades, where plants grew that withstand wind, salt and rainless summers. We restored the soil there and today we grow part of the plants that make up our skincare. We are convinced that the island has everything it takes to become an exceptional place for producing ingredients for cosmetics and perfumery.
Our plants are harvested by hand, at maturity, at the pace of the seasons: it is this precise moment that makes the quality of the ingredient. Our skincare is made in France, in small batches, which allows us to follow every batch from plant to bottle.
This rhythm is a deliberate choice: taking the time to do things well, in line with what the land offers, season after season.
